Vikings Elevate 2 Notable Players For Sunday’s Game

The Minnesota Vikings have elevated running back Ameer Abdullah and quarterback Sean Mannion from their practice squad to the active roster for this Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Abdullah is set to replace injured third-string rookie Kene Nwangwu behind starter Dalvin Cook and backup Alexander Mattison. Mannion will replace injured third-string QB Nate Stanley behind Kirk Cousins and Kellen Mond.

Abdullah, a former second-round pick out of Nebraska, has spent his last two and a half seasons in Minnesota. In 2020, he logged just eight carries for 42 yards through 16 games. While his presence in the run game was lacking, he was able to make an impact in the pass game — notching eight receptions for 58 yards and two touchdowns.

Mannion has only started two games throughout his six-year NFL career. His last start took place back in 2019 when he suited up for the Vikings — throwing for 126 yards and two interceptions in a loss. After spending time on Minnesota’s practice squad in 2020, the former Rams reserve QB signed with the Seahawks earlier this year. Released by Seattle in final cuts, Mannion made his way back to the Vikings practice roster.

Minnesota will kickoff their 2021 season against the Bengals tomorrow afternoon.

The Vikings and Bengals will kick off at 1 p.m. E.T.
