The Carolina Panthers had to pause their practice session on Tuesday because of a scary incident involving wide receiver Keith Kirkwood. He was injured during team drills because of a questionable hit to the head from safety J.T. Ibe.
Kirkwood tried to make a leaping grab when Ibe hit him the head/neck area. Ibe was kicked out of practice for injuring his teammate on that hit.
According to a report from The Charlotte Observer, Kirkwood was on the ground for roughly 10 minutes. He was then carted off the field and taken to an ambulance.
This is definitely not the way Carolina wanted to start its first practice in pads this training camp.

A video of Kirkwood’s injury has surfaced on social media. It looked like a really unnecessary hit from Ibe.
Here’s the collision between Ibe and Kirkwood:

Multiple reporters at Carolina’s practice said that Kirkwood was moving his arms and legs before taken out on a stretcher. That’s a good sign for his long-term health.
Kirkwood, 27, missed the majority of the 2020 season because of an injury to his left clavicle. He was looking to make a strong impression on Carolina’s coaching staff during camp.
Hopefully, the Panthers have a positive update on Kirkwood to share with the NFL world later today.
