Urban Meyer Reportedly Has 1 Main Concern In NFL

It is the first Sunday of the NFL season, and one of the games to keep an eye on today is the professional coaching debut of Urban Meyer.

Meyer achieved success everywhere he went at the collegiate level, winning national championships at Florida and Ohio State and over 80% of his games at Bowling Green and Utah. But all of that goes out the window in the NFL.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, Meyer has one major concern heading into his first season with the Jacksonville Jaguars: what happens if his demanding approach doesn’t lead to victories?

“Urban Meyer pushes players extremely hard, but has always succeeded,” Palmer tweeted today. “Meyer’s concern in the NFL is what the mentality will be in the locker room if they are not succeeding. Will the thought of ‘why are we working so hard’ enter players minds? He’s never experienced that situation.”

Meyer has been pretty honest about what he’s up against in the NFL, telling Yahoo’s Pete Thamel recently that the reality is “you’re facing Alabamas every week.” Gone are the days where Meyer has one of the most dominant rosters in the sport.

What he does have though is a promising rookie quarterback and a major commitment from the Jaguars’ franchise. They will likely give him time to turn it around.

That process takes its next step this afternoon when Jacksonville opens the season against the Houston Texans.
