Some telling details have emerged from the recruitment of five-star quarterback Arch Manning, the No. 1 overall player in the 2023 class, per 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, is one of the hottest commodities in recent college football recruiting history. Nearly every major program is after the New Orleans, Louisiana product.
Are the hometown LSU Tigers the team to beat, though?
According to a report from 247Sports, LSU contacted Manning as soon as the recruiting dead period ended on Sept. 1. Manning reportedly received a message from the Tigers right at midnight.

LSU could certainly use some help at the quarterback position. The Tigers lost to UCLA on Saturday night, with Coach O’s offense looking average at best.
We know what an LSU team with an elite quarterback can do. After all, Joe Burrow led the Tigers to a historic, national championship season in 2019.
Looking more and more like Joe Burrow and Ed Orgeron are Cam Newton and Gene Chizik 2.0. A quarterback having an all time legendary college football season elevates an otherwise good but not great team to excellence. Mediocrity quickly returns. A coach firing follows.

It remains to be seen if Manning will live up to his recruiting hype, but the talent certainly seems to be there.
LSU has some stiff competition on the recruiting trail, though. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas, among other programs, are all pushing hard for Arch Manning.
