Ryan Day Got Some Special Help For The Oregon Game

0

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day reached out to an Oregon legend on Sunday ahead of the Buckeyes’ marquee clash with the Ducks this Saturday.

Day told reporters on Tuesday afternoon that he spoke with former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly on Sunday. Day considers Kelly a mentor. Kelly even tried to bring Day to Eugene when he was coaching the Ducks back in the day. Day said no because he didn’t want to move his family to the West Coast.

It’s pretty wild to consider how the college football landscape could have changed had Day joined the Ducks. He probably would have been Kelly’s successor when Kelly left for the NFL. The Ducks instead promoted Mark Helfrich, who was fired only years later and replaced by Willie Taggart for just a year before he bolted for Florida State. Day, of course, replaced Urban Meyer. Oregon is now led by Mario Cristobal.

This time around, it looks like Kelly is backing the Buckeyes as opposed to the Ducks.

Ryan Day and the Buckeyes are a two-score betting favorite this upcoming Saturday. Ohio State has the more talented roster, the better coaching staff and will be playing in front of a full stadium. The Buckeyes should win this game.

Oregon, meanwhile, has plenty to prove. The Ducks are carrying the Pac-12 on their shoulders. And don’t forget the jury is still undecided on Mario Cristobal, who recruits at an elite level but there are questions surrounding his in-game coaching abilities.

A win will prove vital to both team’s College Football Playoff hopes. The Ducks take on the Buckeyes in Columbus this Saturday at noon ET on FOX.
