Report: What The Patriots Could Get For N’Keal Harry

It appears the N’Keal Harry experiment in New England is coming to an end. His agent, Jamal Tooson, requested a trade for his client earlier this week.

“Through two seasons, he has 86 targets, which obviously hasn’t met the expectations the Patriots and N’Keal had when they drafted a dominant downfield threat who was virtually unstoppable at the point of attack in college,” Tooson said. “Following numerous conversations with the Patriots I believe it’s time for a fresh start and best for both parties if N’Keal moves on before the start of training camp. That is why I have informed the Patriots today I am formally requesting a trade on behalf of my client.”

The Patriots selected Harry with their first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. They were hoping that he’d be a versatile weapon in Josh McDaniels’ offense, but those plans haven’t come to fruition.

New England hasn’t commented on Harry’s trade demands just yet. However, most people around the league believe the Arizona State product will be on the move.

As for what a potential trade may look like, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk is reporting that New England could receive a fifth-round pick in exchange for Harry.

“An unnamed source from a team with no currently obvious needs at the position predicts that the Patriots, if willing to trade Harry, could get a fifth-round pick for the first-round prospect — possibly with another pick flowing from New England to the new team as part of the usual balancing act reflected by so many other trades, like a 2023 seventh-rounder,” Florio wrote, via ProFootballTalk.

Trading away a former first-round pick for late-round selections isn’t ideal, but the Patriots may have no other choice.

Any team interested in acquiring Harry via trade need to be comfortable with his current contract. He’s set to earn $1.4 million this upcoming season and $1.8 million in 2022.
