It’s been a while since we’ve heard much about Deshaun Watson‘s future, at least on the football side of things. Trade rumors surrounding the superstar quarterback are starting to heat up as the 2021-22 season fast approaches.
In case you forgot, Watson doesn’t exactly want to play in Houston anymore. He’s a superstar wanting to join a contender and we don’t blame him. The Texans don’t give him a path to the Super Bowl, at least anytime soon.
In the scenario Watson gets past his legal troubles and plays football this upcoming season, where will he be playing? A new contender has emerged, and it’s a shocker. Insert the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins don’t have a whole lot of faith in second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who had a pretty poor rookie season. If Watson is able to play this fall, Miami could be on the hunt to land Watson, per a report.
“We’re told the Dolphins have enough lingering questions about Tua’s ability and future that they would still consider trading for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson if his legal situation is somehow resolved in time for the 2021 season,” wrote Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network. “That, of course, is an enormous if. Watson stands accused of sexual misconduct by nearly two dozen massage therapists who are suing him.
“… But that has not stopped the Dolphins from keeping an open mind, according to multiple sources briefed on the organization’s thinking.”
The Dolphins are widely viewed as a rising contender, but quarterback remains an issue.
Tua Tagovailoa didn’t look like the franchise quarterback Miami was hoping he’d be. He still has time to improve, though, and the Texans could give him that time.
Deshaun Watson, meanwhile, would be a perfect fit for a Dolphins team capable of contending for a Super Bowl.
