Paul Finebaum Has Surprising Take On Nick Saban’s Rant

It doesn’t matter how much his dominant Alabama team wins by — Nick Saban is almost always going to have some criticism for his Crimson Tide players.

The all-time great college coach proved that fact yet again earlier this week. After his team’s blowout win over No. 14 Miami, Saban went on a rant about his players’ lack of intensity.

ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum has heard enough from Saban, saying that this rant was merely an attention grab from the Alabama coach.

“I know it’s verboten to criticize Nick Saban this early in the morning, but I am officially bored with his rants,” Finebaum said on SEC Nation. “I think Saban just wanted to be on SportsCenter this week. There was no reason to go after your players when they played almost a perfect game. You don’t have to be motivated to play Mercer. … If you’re doing it for the future, do it in the future. Don’t waste your time this week.”

Coming off Saturday’s 44-13 win over the Hurricanes, Saban and the Crimson Tide are heading into what should be a blowout home game against the Mercer Bears.

Saban feels this week’s cake-walk opponent combined with recent media praise has caused his team to lose its edge.

“We haven’t proven that we can play for 60 minutes,” he said. “Then we come out on Monday and were really not ready to practice. I guess because of respect we have for the opponent, I don’t really know all that. Or maybe it’s what they read on social media or in the media or whatever after one half of a game this season.”

Like Finebaum, many people believe this nitpicking from Saban is over the top.

Others feel it’s what separates him from the rest as one of the greatest coaches of all-time.
