NFL World Reacts To Washington Football Team QB News

The Washington Football Team is in need of a new starting quarterback – for the time being, at least – but don’t expect any outside additions.

Washington starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick left Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers with an apparent injury. He was replaced by backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke. The Chargers beat the Football Team, 20-16.

Head coach Ron Rivera confirmed following the game that Fitzpatrick suffered a hip injury. At this point, the severity of the injury is unclear.

With Fitzpatrick going down, many speculated that the Football Team would consider signing Cam Newton, who played for Rivera in Carolina.

However, it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen.

“The WFT has confidence in the two QBs on its roster… will look internally before considering anyone not on the roster,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports.

Perhaps Newton will eventually become an option in Washington, especially if Fitzpatrick is out for a while. However, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon.

Heinicke played well in a playoff loss to the Buccaneers last season. He completed 11 of 15 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s loss.

Washington will return to the field on Thursday against the New York Giants.
