Earlier this week, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady made headlines for his comments about today’s NFL.
The star quarterback suggested officials have helped to ruin the game by calling too many fouls on the defense. He thinks there are plays run by the offense that get its own players into trouble, which results in a penalty on the defense.
“Every hard hit is a penalty on the defense,” he said. “I feel like they penalize defensive players for offensive mistakes.”
Of course, any time Tom Brady speaks, other players and fans listen. When he’s openly criticizing the officials and the NFL for calling too many penalties on the defense, everyone took notice.
That includes former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier.
“I need to hear this. On the great morning because it’s turn. Its not the defense job to protect you. Its your job to protect yourself. Tom Brady thank you,” he said on social media.

Former star quarterback Kurt Warner agrees with Brady.
“Amen… I’m 100% all in on protecting players, but that used to be our job as a QB, protect your guys!! Used to get ‘those Eyes’ from WR walking back to huddle if they got hit… now guys high-fiving bc D is paying for it & defenders should be saying, ‘That’s on QB, Not me!’” he said.

While Brady’s comments went viral, don’t expect any changes from the NFL in the upcoming seasons.
