NFL World Reacts To Aaron Rodgers Contract News

We’ve heard that the current standoff between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers “isn’t about money” this offseason. A new report from Adam Schefter indicates that is the case.

According to Schefter, Rodgers was offered a two-year contract extension by the team. That would’ve locked him in for five seasons, and per the report, made him the highest-paid player in the NFL.

Without Rodgers speaking much publicly this offseason, it is hard to get a sense of what could keep him in Green Bay. That five-year commitment would seem to indicate that he is truly the team’s quarterback of the present and foreseeable future, but it wasn’t enough to overcome his indignation over how things played out over the last year or two.

In recent days we’ve gotten fairly positive indications by Rodgers’ teammates and others around the team. The Schefter report is pretty deflating for Packers fans this morning.

Of course, without knowing the contract details, in this reported offer to Rodgers it is hard to really glean what this means. As we know, NFL contracts are often not what they seem unless they have significant guaranteed money.

If there is no amount of money that will settle down this situation with Aaron Rodgers, and it is all about him feeling betrayed by the front office, it is anyone’s guess how this will play out. There is no real indication that the Green Bay Packers want to fire general manager Brian Gutekunst, so we’ll just have to see if the Packers holding strong is enough to get Rodgers back to camp and under center for at least another season.
