NFL Referee Making History In Jets vs. Panthers Game

An NFL referee will be making history in Sunday’s game between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets.

The NFL announced on Sunday that referee Maia Chaka will make history in the Week 1 contest between the Jets and the Panthers.

Chaka will become the first Black woman to officiate an NFL game.

“Maia Chaka is making history today. She will be the first black woman to officiate an NFL game,” the NFL announced on Sunday.

That’s pretty cool.

Sunday’s game between the Jets and Panthers will be an interesting one for multiple reasons. Most notably, it pits Sam Darnold against his old team.

Darnold recently admitted that he didn’t perform as well as he should have in New York.

“I didn’t do my job to the best of my abilities,” Darnold said when asked about a lack of weapons with the Jets.

The Jets and the Panthers will kick off at 1 p.m. E.T. on Sunday.

The game will air on CBS.
