News blog Covid-19 Saxony about incidence 1,000 – Kretschmer fears hard lockdown.
Saxony is the first federal state to report an incidence value of over 1,000. If the trend does not change, Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer wants to talk about more stringent means next week. All information in the news blog.
The situation has never been so dramatic: Germany is being overwhelmed by the fourth wave of the Corona crisis, and the number of new infections reported and the number of deaths are rising nationwide. Politicians are now paying particular attention to hospitalization values. You will find an overview of the situation in your federal state here. The vaccination rate (fully vaccinated) against the coronavirus is around 68 percent.
For the first time in a federal state, the incidence value has risen above 1,000. For Saxony, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a value of 1,074.6 on Thursday, on Wednesday the number of reported new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week in the state was still 935.8.
Within one day, the health authorities in Saxony counted 11,581 new corona infections, plus 42 deaths. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence was 419.7 (previous day: 404.5).
Nationwide, nine of the ten administrative districts in Saxony were above the incidence value of 1,000. Only the major cities of Dresden (630.3), Leipzig (869.1) and Chemnitz (972.2) as well as the district of Görlitz (735.6) are below this value. The district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains remains the nationwide hotspot with 1,688.
Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer no longer rules out a lockdown before Christmas. “The danger cannot be dismissed out of hand. It can only be prevented if there is a collective understanding and common awareness of avoiding contacts and observing the measures,” said the CDU politician of the “Sächsische Zeitung”. If there is not a positive effect in the coming week, “we have to have this discussion”.
Kretschmer also assumes that bed occupancy with Covid 19 patients will increase dramatically in the next few weeks. “We are now preparing the transfer of patients to other federal states. This possibility still exists. We will use this also to take preventive measures. We can hardly influence current developments.”
Due to the high number of new corona infections in the southwest, more and more clinics are restricting patient visits or prohibiting them altogether. For example, there is now a ban on visiting the university hospitals in Freiburg and Ulm. The houses in Mannheim, Ludwigsburg and in the Reutlingen district had previously announced that they wanted to use this measure to reduce the risk of infections in the clinic to a minimum.
However, exceptions apply, for example in the case of births or when children are in hospital. Even when patients are in intensive care or dying, relatives are allowed to visit them. Visitors must either be vaccinated, recovered, or tested.
Other clinics at least severely limit visits. At the University Hospital in Heidelberg and at the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart, patients are only allowed to receive one visitor for one hour a day. The Schwarzwald-Baar-Klinikum in Villingen-Schwenningen no longer allows several visitors to be in one patient room at the same time.
In addition, the houses rely on the 2G rule. So if you haven’t been vaccinated or have recovered, you have to stay out there. At the university clinic in Tübingen, a negative corona rapid test is also required for the exclusively vaccinated and recovered visitors.
The health expert Karl Lauterbach wished national soccer player Joshua Kimmich a “quick full recovery” after his corona infection. “The case shows how difficult it is to avoid Covid today without being vaccinated.” In the group of the unvaccinated, the incidence is well over 1,000, wrote the SPD politician on Twitter and warned at the same time: “The risk is uncontrollable.”
