More Details Emerge From The Situation With The Saints

The Saints’ Week 2 showdown with the Carolina Panthers could be in jeopardy.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday morning that a “handful of offensive coaches” on the Saints’ staff have tested positive.

The good news is that a source in New Orleans told Schefter the Saints will “be just fine.” The bad news is that more positives could be on the way. The NFL’s testing schedule spans over three days with three groups, meaning more positives cases could arise before the end of the week.

Depending on how many coaches and players test positive, the Saints may end up being unable to play versus Carolina on Sunday. Stay tuned.

This couldn’t be worse timing for a Saints team coming off a statement win in Week 1.

New Orleans made the Green Bay Packers look like a basement dweller in a 38-3 victory in Jacksonville. Quarterback Jameis Winston, Drew Brees’ successor, carved up the Green Bay defense by completing 14 of his 20 pass attempts for 148 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Alvin Kamara, meanwhile, added 83 yards rushing on 20 carries.

The Saints looked like a legitimate contender in the NFC this past weekend. But they may not be at full strength this coming Sunday when they take on the Carolina Panthers.

For the offensive coaches on New Orleans’ staff, they’ll have to test negative twice in a span of 24 hours to be on the field on Sunday. It’s going to be an interesting week for the Saints.
