Mike Tomlin Reveals His Expectation For T.J. Watt This Weekend vs. Bills

T.J. Watt finally scored a massive contract extension with the Steelers on Thursday. Now the question is will he play in Pittsburgh’s season opener this Sunday?

Watt practiced for the first time on Wednesday, ending his preseason holdout with the Steelers. A day later, contract negotiations came to a close and Pittsburgh made him the highest-paid defensive player in football. Go figure.

There have been questions surrounding when Watt will be ready to go for the Steelers. After all, he only began practicing on Wednesday. The Steelers’ season opener is on Sunday. Will he be ready? Head coach Mike Tomlin had the answer on Friday.

Tomlin told reporters on Friday that he “expect(s) him to be TJ Watt” when the Steelers take on the Bills on Sunday. In other words, Watt is playing.

This is good news for the Pittsburgh Steelers. T.J. Watt is clearly in good enough shape to give it a go on Sunday.

Believe it or not, Watt could end up having the best season of his professional career this year. His contract negotiations with the Steelers are behind him and now he can solely focus on football. It’s a win-win for all involved.

As long as Watt lives up to expectations, Pittsburgh’s defense should be one of the best in the NFL. It will be on full display this Sunday when the Steelers take on the Buffalo Bills.
