Look: Mac Jones’ Awful 1st NFL “Pass” Is Going Viral

Several rookie quarterbacks saw their first NFL action today. But while one rookie QB scored a touchdown with his first pass, Mac Jones‘ first “pass” attempt is going viral for how awful it is.

On the New England Patriots‘ opening drive against the Miami Dolphins, the Patriots ran the ball four times before calling a pass play. Jones took the pass and tried to scramble away from pressure but as he tried to throw a pass he got spun around and dropped the ball backwards, causing a fumble.

Thankfully for Jones, he was able to grab the ball and avoid losing the fumble. But the Patriots’ offense soon stalled and they were forced to punt.

That definitely wasn’t what Bill Belichick wanted to see from his starting quarterback – no matter how experienced. Unfortunately, that play is going viral for all of the reasons Belichick hates:

“They released Cam for THIS?!?” one Cam Newton supporter said in a retweet.

“pinpoint accuracy,” another fan joked.

“LMAO,” wrote another. “Them “Welcome to the league” moments ain’t no joke.”

Mac Jones was the No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after a historic 2020 season at Alabama. After pitting him against last year’s starter, Cam Newton, the Patriots named Jones the starter and released Newton.

Jones is off to a bit of a rough start against the Patriots’ division rivals. But he should be able to bounce back.

The game is being played on CBS.
