Just a few weeks ago, the New England Patriots made the surprising decision to release veteran quarterback Cam Newton.
In the weeks following his release, fans wondered what might be next for the former NFL MVP. While no team has come calling just yet, Newton made it clear in a video earlier this week that he’s not retiring.
“I have a lot of things that I need to get off my chest,” Newton said of a video he plans on posting Friday. “This is not a retirement speech, and I have a lot of football still in me.”
On Thursday afternoon, more details of the “things” Newton needs to get off his chest came out. He’ll be talking about his release from the Patriots, according to this social media post.
“Remove all doubt, there’s not 32 quarterbacks better than Cam Newton,” the caption reads. “On this weeks Funky Friday, Cam Newton & Father talk about Cam’s release.”
Following his release, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick only had good things to say about Newton.
“I have nothing but positive thoughts and feelings for Cam,” Belichick said on 93.7 WEEI-FM. “He came in here, he worked hard, and gave us everything he had. Right now, our future is going to be Mac at quarterback. So that’s where we’re going to go.”
It seems like we’ll finally hear Newton’s side of the story later this week.
