Kyle Shanahan Announces Major 49ers Injury News

The San Francisco 49ers had a big day against the Detroit Lions in Week 1. Unfortunately, it came at a heavy cost as key players on both offense and defense went down.

On Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan shared the injury report from the game. It’s not pretty.

Starting running back Raheem Mostert suffered a knee injury and is heading to injured reserve. He is out for at least eight weeks.

The news is even worse for starting cornerback Jason Verrett. The former Pro Bowler suffered a torn ACL. His 2021 season is officially over.

The San Francisco 49ers offense proved up to the task of taking down the Lions without Raheem Mostert. Rookie Elijah Mitchell took the rans and had over 100 rushing yards to finish the game.

But the defense quickly fell apart after losing Verrett.

The Detroit Lions scored touchdowns on back-to-back drives after Verrett got hurt, turning a 24-point 49ers lead into an eight-point nail biter in the final minute.

San Francisco were able to hold off the Lions comeback, but it appears they weren’t as well equipped in the secondary as we might have thought.

The 49ers now head into Week 2 against the Philadelphia Eagles without two of their most important players. Kyle Shanahan is going to have to pull out all of the stops and get some players to step up if he wants to start the year at 2-0.

How will losing Raheem Mostert and Jason Verrett affect the 49ers?
