Kirk Herbstreit Releases His New Top 4 Rankings

Week 2 of the college football season is now behind us and while there weren’t many surprises, the one we had may wind up being the biggest of the season. Ohio State lost to Oregon over the weekend in a shocking upset, and that’s led ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit to make a major adjustment to his top 4.

On Sunday, Herbstreit released his new top 4 based on the “combination of talent/potential and results from (the) first 2 weeks”. Making the top three were Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma, who all took care of business on Saturday.

But Ohio State lost their spot on the list. Replacing the Buckeyes are the team that beat them: The Oregon Ducks. Oregon will almost assuredly be ranked in the top 5 on the AP poll this coming week. They’re already No. 4 on the Coaches’ Poll.

Just missing the cut were Iowa and Cincinnati. The Hawkeyes beat in-state rival Iowa State while Cincinnati who handled Murray State with ease.

It’s still early in the season and we haven’t even seen that many in-conference games yet. But the past two weeks have already allowed certain teams like Alabama and Georgia to distinguish themselves.

Oregon, Oklahoma, Iowa and Cincinnati all look like early favorites to reach their respective conference championship games. From there, it all depends on how much they can impress the voting committee to make their national title ambitions come true.

Do you agree with Kirk Herbstreit’s top 4? Who would you have included/left off?
