It sounds like Kevin Durant is ready to be the leader of Team USA this summer. On Wednesday, Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal had nothing but praise for the former MVP’s leadership skills.
After the second day of Team USA camp, Beal told reporters that this year’s squad looks up to Durant because he’s had so much success with the national team.
“His leadership is terrific. He’s 39-0 in USA basketball and that’s crazy,” Bradley Beal said, via Nets Daily. “We definitely want to keep that going. It speaks volumes for him to be 10+ years in the league and still wanting to come back and be a part of this prestigious fraternity. We definitely look up to him to push us and lead us, but at the same time, he’s very unselfish. He’s very encouraging. He wants everyone to do well.”
Durant already gave his teammates a few words of encouragement, according to Beal. The Brooklyn Nets star told his teammates to “be special” during the Tokyo Olympics.
“He said something very unique today. He said ‘be special. That’s why we’re here.’ And that stuck on to me. So hopefully, we can keep that mentality and understand that we’re here for a reason.”

That message should inspire every single player on Team USA.
While it’s certainly impressive seeing Durant take on a leadership role, we can’t forget what he’s capable of doing on the hardwood. During this postseason, he averaged 34.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
Durant will be highly motivated to silence his naysayers this summer. That is, of course, if there are any doubters left.
