Jimmy Garoppolo Reacts To Raheem Mostert Injury News

The San Francisco 49ers received brutal news earlier this week regarding veteran tailback Raheem Mostert. He’ll undergo surgery on his knee that will keep him out of action for the rest of the 2021 season.

On Wednesday afternoon, 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was asked about Mostert’s injury. It’s apparent that Garoppolo has a lot of admiration and respect for him.

“With Raheem, it really sucks — it does. There’s no way around it,” Garoppolo told reporters. “It’s one of those tough breaks for him. Just getting started, off to a hot start like that, and then you lose him. So we’re going to miss him.”

Garoppolo will certainly miss Mostert’s presence in the lineup. On the bright side, he sounds very optimistic about the young talent the 49ers have in their backfield.

“The young guys — like Elijah [Mitchell] did in the game and [JaMycal] Hasty, I’ve seen it last year with Hasty, he’s always ready to roll. He’s a gamer. And then we’ll bring Trey [Sermon] along, get him ready for this week. I mean, they’re a good group — they really are. They complement each other well.”

Mitchell was impressive in his regular season debut with the 49ers, rushing for 104 yards and a touchdown. For some reason, Sermon was a healthy scratch from the lineup.

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan has a history of rotating his running backs over the course of the season, so it’ll be tough to predict who’ll receive the bulk of the carries on a weekly basis.

The 49ers will try to improve their record to 2-0 on Sunday when they take on the Eagles.
