Jerry Jones Has Brutally Honest Admission On Jimmy Johnson

For decades one of the most notable beefs in the NFL has been between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his former head coach Jimmy Johnson. While Jones still has not admitted Johnson into the Cowboys Ring of Honor, he made a surprising admission recently.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Jones admitted that he “f-d it up” with Johnson in 1994 before the two separated for good. He said that he doesn’t even know why he did it all of these years later.

Things were tense between Jones and the Cowboys during the 1993 NFL season. The Cowboys went 12-4 and beat the Buffalo Bills to win their second straight Super Bowl that year.

But numerous heated confrontations between Jones and Johnson led the two to part ways in March of 1994. Barry Switzer was hired and led the Cowboys to another Super Bowl title in 1995.

In the years since, Jerry Jones has accused Jimmy Johnson of “disloyalty” to his Cowboys.

To this day, Jimmy Johnson has not been inducted into the Cowboys Ring of Honor. But he is slated for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year.

Fortunately, it does appear that Jones is ready to soften his stance on keeping Johnson out of the Ring of Honor. During today’s presser he said that Johnson wouldn’t enter the Ring of Honor this year due to his Hall of Fame induction. But he didn’t close the door on Johnson getting in the year after.

Jimmy Johnson has said that he would want Troy Aikman and Terry Bradshaw to present him with the honors. Perhaps his stance would also soften if he can bury the hatchet with Jerry Jones.
