Jaguars Activate Former Ohio State Star For Week 1

In fewer than 24 hours, Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars will take the field for their first game of the 2021 season.

All eyes will be on No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense when they take on the Houston Texans on Sunday. To help Lawrence tomorrow, the Jaguars elevated a wide receiver from the practice squad.

The Jaguars only had four wide receivers on the active roster after the team placed Tavon Austin on IR. To add some depth for tomorrow’s game, Jacksonville elevated former Ohio State wide receiver Devin Smith to the active roster.

Smith, 29, was a star for Ohio State from 2011 to 2014. Over the course of his four-year career with the Buckeyes, Smith had 121 receptions for 2,503 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Following a standout career with the Buckeyes, the New York Jets selected Smith with a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to have the same success at the NFL level as he did in college.

During his NFL career, he’s spent time with the New England Patriots, Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys.

Now he gets a chance to make an impact for the Jaguars.
