Insider Shares What Patriots CB Stephon Gilmore Reportedly Wants In Contract Negotiations

Patriots star defensive back Stephon Gilmore has said all offseason long that he wants to get paid what he’s “worth.” It appears negotiations between Gilmore and New England are heating as training camp approaches.

Per Michael Girardi of NFL Network, Gilmore is open to two different paths in regards to his contract. He’s okay with a multi-year extension. He would also accept a salary bump for the upcoming season, which is currently the last year on his contract.

Gilmore’s base salary in the upcoming season is $7 million. For a player of his caliber, that’s a low figure.

A trade is another option, but it’s looking less and less likely. The Patriots don’t want to go into the 2021-22 season without their top defensive back and one of the better defensive players in the league.

Veteran Patriots players have to report to training camp on July 27. It appears Gilmore and New England are hopeful they can wrap up negotiations before then.

These negotiations arose when Stephon Gilmore approached the Patriots about wanting more pay. He told NFL insider Josina Anderson as much earlier this month.

“I just want what I’m worth, however that plays out,” Gilmore said. “Every player should be paid what they’re worth. That’s just how it is.”

Both sides want to get a deal done, and July 27 appears to be the target date for Gilmore and the Pats.
