Demetris Robertson, the No. 1 ranked wide receiver in the 2016 recruiting cycle, is about to add new drama to the Auburn–Georgia rivalry.
Robertson began his collegiate career when he stunned the world and chose the California Golden Bears as his initial home. It was a surprising pick. Somehow, the former five star escaped the SEC’s backyard and went to the Pac-12.
Robertson eventually chose to go back home. He transferred to Georgia in 2018, but never carved out much of a role in the Bulldogs offense. Perhaps his next home will bring the playing time he’s looking for.
Robertson announced on Thursday that he’s transferring to one of Georgia’s biggest rivals: the Auburn Tigers.
“Thank you Georgia football from the bottom of my heart for everything,” Robertson said on Twitter. “From coach Smart to coach Hankton to my academic advisors and everyone I met along the way. Athens, thank you for everything. With that being said, I have decided to use my last year of eligibility at… Auburn University! I can’t wait to get to work.”
Take a look.

Just a reminder: the Auburn Tigers host the Georgia Bulldogs on Oct. 9 later this year. So no, Demetris Robertson won’t have to face a crowd full of boos in Athens.
Robertson has yet to consistently play up to his five-star hype. His best season was his freshman year, when he caught 50 passes for 767 yards and seven touchdowns for the Golden Bears.
Robertson now heads to Auburn, where he’ll have one last chance to live up to the hype.
