Everyone Is Saying the Same Thing About Urban Meyer & USC

After six-plus years as the man in charge at USC, Clay Helton has been fired as the Trojans’ head football coach. His firing has turned many people’s eyes to Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer.

Meyer sat out the last two college football seasons after leaving Ohio State following the 2018 campaign. But he’s long been a target for USC, who want one of the top coaches in the game to restore their program’s glory.

This year marks Meyer’s first foray into the NFL at any level. But he’s doing so with a team that went 1-15 last year, and just lost by double digits to the Houston Texans on Sunday.

As a result, just about every USC fan on Twitter is pounding the table for Meyer to jump the Jaguars ship and go to Southern California. Take a look:

It’s not just Trojan fans mentioning Meyer for the job. Plenty of media members are joking about the possibility as well.

It’s been a long time since an NFL head coach jumped ship midseason to go to the college ranks. Bobby Petrino did exactly that with the Atlanta Falcons, resigning and going to Arkansas in the middle of his first year with the team.

But we could see Meyer leave after this season. That’s something that Nick Saban famously did after the 2006 season with the Miami Dolphins.

Meyer is trying to cement his legacy as one of the great all-time coaches in football history though. And if he gives up on the Jaguars, it will hurt more than possibly anything he might accomplish at USC.

Should Urban Meyer dump the Jaguars and go to USC?
