ESPN Computer Updates Its Playoff Prediction After Week 2

Week 2 of the 2021 college football regular season is officially in the books and the College Football Playoff picture has been shaken up.

Ohio State, the No. 3 team in the country and the overwhelming favorite to make the College Football Playoff out of the Big Ten, suffered an upset loss to No. 12 Oregon.

While the Buckeyes remain in contention for a College Football Playoff spot, Ryan Day’s team is no longer a favorite to make it. The Ducks, meanwhile, have surged to the top of some College Football Playoff projections.

ESPN’s computer model, the Football Power Index, has updated its projection for the College Football Playoff after Week 2.

Here’s who ESPN has making it to the College Football Playoff following the first two weeks of the regular season:

  1. Alabama
  2. Oklahoma
  3. Georgia
  4. Oregon

It’s tough to argue with that foursome right now. It might be tough for the SEC to get two teams into the College Football Playoff, but right now, both the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs look like truly elite teams.

There’s a long way to go this season, though.

Full projections from ESPN’s Football Power Index can be seen here.
