DJ Moore improved yet again during the 2020 NFL season, but is now ready to take things to the “next level” this fall. After racking up 1,193 yards last year, it’ll be tough sledding for the young Carolina Panthers wide receiver to top that mark, so he turned to another franchise legend for advice.
Moore revealed that he sought out former Panthers great Steve Smith for wisdom. The five-time Pro Bowler reached the peak of his impressive NFL career in Carolina and is just one of two franchise players to top the 1,193 yards that Moore posted last season.
In a recent interview with Darin Garrett of the Panthers’ team website, Moore spoke about how he’s remained “even-keeled” throughout his career and has never been someone to get “overly excited about something.” However, Smith has imparted to the 24-year-old the importance of flipping the switch once he takes the field.
“Just to be hard-working,” Moore said of the advice he’d been given from Smith, via the team’s website. “He’s always talked about going into practice like it was a game. Always be professional, and always have a dog mentality when you get out there. Whether you have a big personality like him or a laid-back vibe like I’ve got, you’ve still got to have that dog when you step out there.”

Already, Moore has proven that he can be a top option in the NFL through just three years in the league. During that span, he’s racked up 208 catches for 3,156 yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Panthers exercised Moore’s option for the 2022 season, meaning that he’ll be under contract in Carolina for at least the next two years. If he’s able to continue his steady production in 2021, he may be in line for a massive extension soon enough.
