College Football Coach Announces He Won’t Be Getting Vaccinated

Washington State head football coach Nick Rolovich will not be attending Pac-12 Media Day because he will not be taking the COVID-19 vaccine.

Rolovich revealed this news with a statement on Twitter this afternoon. He will still participate in the annual media event next week, but will have to do so remotely.

“As the Pac-12 Conference has required that all in-person participants at next week’s Pac-12 Football Media Day be fully vaccinated, I will participate remotely and look forward to talking about our football team and the incredible young men in our program,” Rolovich wrote. “I have elected not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine for reasons will will remain private. While I have made my own decision, I respect that every individual–including our coaches, staff and student-athletes–can make his or her own decision regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. I will not comment further on my decision.”

Washington State currently requires all employees and volunteers to be vaccinated, but leaves a loophole for “medical, religious or personal” exemptions. Presumably, this is what Rolovich will use to continue to do his job while not being vaccinated.

Getting the COVID-19 vaccine isn’t mandatory, but Rolovich has to know he is going to take a lot of heat for coming out and saying he won’t get one. It seems like he is prepared for that reality though.
