Clemson Announces 3 Players Will Miss Tonight’s Game

In just under an hour, the biggest game of the college football weekend will kick off as No. 3 Clemson takes on No. 5 Georgia.

It’s a game with College Football Playoff implications in the very first week of the season. The Tigers and Bulldogs kick off from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina in a major non-conference showdown.

Before the two teams step on the field, though, the Tigers received some bad news. Clemson announced it will be without three players during the pivotal contest against Georgia.

The list unfortunately includes starting defensive lineman Tyler Davis.

“The following players listed on Clemson’s most recently published depth chart are not expected to be available for this game: DT Tyler Davis, WR Brannon Spector, OL Mason Trotter,” the team announced, via college football reporter Grace Raynor.

That’s not the way Clemson wanted the night to start. However, the Bulldogs themselves are dealing with a few key absences as well.

Star wide receiver George Pickens suffered a torn ACL earlier this offseason. Georgia will also be without a few other players, including wide receiver Dominick Blaylock and defensive back Tykee Smith.

Despite the absences, both teams have tremendous depth thanks to their top recruiting classes in recent years.

Clemson enters the contest as a slight 2.5-point favorite over Georgia. The Tigers and Bulldogs kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
