Charles Barkley Has Brutally Honest Message For Ben Simmons

It seems like Ben Simmons‘ days with the Philadelphia 76ers are numbered. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the All-Star point guard wants to be traded.

That trade request has rubbed Charles Barkley the wrong way, as he went off on Simmons during an appearance on on “The Mike Missanelli Show.”

“Let me get this straight. We liked you enough to give you $200 million. The only thing we asked you to be is a good basketball player, and you’re a good basketball player. We’re just asking you to shoot the ball. Now, he’s mad and wants to leave town. This is total BS,” Barkley said.

Simmons was awfully disappointing in this year’s playoffs, averaging 11.9 points per game. His confidence was so rattled that he was passing up open looks in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

Barkley also addressed the idea that Philadelphia has no leverage when it comes to a Simmons trade. He clearly doesn’t agree with that narrative.

“If you want to be traded that is fine, we’re not giving you away,” Barkley said. “We’re not going to trade you to where you want to be traded. For someone who wants to give up the deal, we’re not taking 25 cents on the dollar. If we don’t get the deal we want, you are going to be playing right here in Philadelphia.”

Since a breakup between Simmons and the Sixers seems inevitable, it’ll be interesting to see what a potential blockbuster trade looks like.

Simmons has four years and $147 million remaining on his deal with the Sixers.
