With the San Francisco 49ers, Brandon Aiyuk had a promising rookie season, catching 60 passes for 748 yards and five touchdowns. But, for some reason, he’s been virtually unnoticed through the first two games of the 2021 season. Several rumors have circulated that Aiyuk is in Kyle Shanahan’s “doghouse,” but Shanahan quickly debunked that notion last week.
Shanahan said of Aiyuk, “No, it’s not a doghouse.” “Had he not tweaked his hamstring before the third preseason game, he would’ve regained his starting spot completely.” We planned to rotate him, and we did. It’s not personal…things are a bigger deal because of fantasy football…and you get a big reaction to that. Despite Shanahan’s comments, the 49ers didn’t make any changes to Aiyuk’s role in Week 2. Against the Philadelphia Eagles, he only had one catch for six yards.
On Wednesday, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers was asked about Aiyuk’s lack of production thus far. According to Garoppolo, the second-year wide receiver will eventually turn things around. “I know there’s a lot of panic and stuff like that in the air,” Garoppolo said. “But if you were at practice every day consistently and saw what he can do, it’s really one of those things where one week it’s this guy’s game and the next week it’s another.” “It’s just the way the offense works.” But I believe it is only a matter of time. ”

The 49ers will host the Green Bay Packers in their home opener this weekend, and they could use a big game from Aiyuk.
Aiyuk demonstrated in 2020 that he can create something out of nothing. We’ll find out this Sunday if he’ll get a chance to show off his special abilities. 004
