Bengals Veteran Already Ruled Out For Sunday’s Game

Cornerback Trae Waynes has yet to play a game for the Cincinnati Bengals, and he won’t be on the field this weekend against his former team, the Minnesota Vikings.

Waynes has been ruled out for the season opener, according to Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor. The seventh-year pro is dealing with a hamstring issue.

Waynes, who was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, spent the first five seasons of his career with Minnesota. He signed a three-year, $42 million free agent contract with the Bengals in 2020.

However, a torn pectoral muscle kept Waynes out for the entire 2020 season, and now he’s not ready for the start of  2021.

Former New York Giants first-round pick Eli Apple is expected to replace Waynes in the starting lineup opposite Chidobe Awuzie.

All in all, this looks like a Bengals secondary that is pretty ripe for the picking for quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Vikings’ receiving corps. Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen could be in store for big days.

The Vikings and Bengals will kick off at 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
