Before the year comes to an end, it looks like a few more idols of the older generation might make a comeback. 2021 was a treat for second generation K-pop fans as we had reunions from popular groups like 2AM, 2:00 p.m., T-ara, SHINee and Brave Girls. There are also rumors that iconic groups like 2NE1 and BigBang will be returning soon. We also had solo comebacks from members of inactive or broken groups like Infinites Woohyun, Highlights Yoseob and BAPs Jongup. And now we have another legendary idol releasing new music. BAP fans must be thrilled, because after Jongup and Zelo we have Bang Yongguk solo with ‘Race’.

BAP was a popular second generation band that debuted in 2012. They had a dynamic discography with viral hits like “Warrior” and “One Shot”. They achieved worldwide success by topping Billboard multiple times and being one of the K-pop groups responsible for initiating the Hallyu wave that is now taking over the world. Although they filed a lawsuit against their label, they were still releasing albums until 2018 when all of their contracts expired. After that, they took a break. But now it seems that they are slowly coming back as the leader of the group Yongguk releases new music.

Yongguk, the leader of the group, made his debut as a soloist before moving to BAP. In 2019 he renewed his solo career with the single “Hikikomori”. After releasing his first solo album “BANGYONGGUK” in March 2019, he enlisted in the military. After his release in May 2021, he founded his own agency Consent and released the single “Race” on November 23rd. The fans were thrilled that he is returning after two years. He contributed to both the creation and the lyrics of the song. With a racing concept, the edgy rock song is all about life being an endless race.

2021 is a good year for BAP fans as Jongup released his first mini-album “US”. We also got a mini reunion when some BAP members were featured in his TikTok challenge. Youngjae, on the other hand, expanded his acting career by taking roles in the popular K-dramas’ Mr. Queen ”and“ Police University ”. We also had Zelo who released singles in September after his last EP in 2020. Daehyun, on the other hand, continues his musical career even in the military, as he was cast in ‘Meissa’s Song’ alongside EXO’s Chanyeol and Infinites L. With the group not “officially” breaking up, fans were overjoyed when both Jongup and Yongguk recently mentioned that there was hope of seeing BAP again.

Happy fans tweeted comments like, “This man went through so much shit old” and “CAN YOU HEAR ME UGLY CRYING … YES, YOU’RE STILL A BAP LEADER, YOU ARE ALWAYS BEING.”
