With the college football season a little over a month away, 247Sports has revealed its rankings for the top 50 players in the country.
There are several talented quarterbacks in college football this year, such as Sam Howell, D’Eriq King, Spencer Rattler and Kedon Slovis. And yet, none of them managed to grab the spot on Chris Hummer’s list.
Instead, the No. 1 spot in 247Sports’ top 50 went to Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux.
“Thibodeaux emerged as a starter late in the 2019 season and has been consistently dominant since, posting multiple tackles for loss in nine of his last 12 games,” Hummer wrote, via 247Sports. “This includes overwhelming efforts in back-to-back Pac-12 Championship games – 12 QB pressures against USC in 2020 and a Pac-12 title game record 2.5 sacks against Utah in 2019. Thibodeaux is CFB’s premier EDGE rusher and can change a game in an instant. He’s the most feared defensive player in college football.”

Hummer’s ranking for Thibodeaux shouldn’t really surprise college football fans. Besides, most NFL analysts have Thibodeaux ranked as the No. 1 prospect for the 2022 draft class.
Thibodeaux has been outstanding for the Ducks over the past two seasons, racking up 77 total tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, 12.0 sacks and six passes defended.
We’ve seen quarterbacks go first overall in the NFL Draft for the past four years, but Thibodeaux could snap that recent trend with another productive season.
