Sam Houston vs. Stephen F. Austin Preview

Sam Houston (3-0) hopes to repeat as FCS national champions. With 794 yards passing, 10 touchdowns, and two interceptions, Bearkats quarterback Eric Schmid is off to another strong start. He’s got a 54. The completion rate is 9%. Stephen F. Austin can’t overlook his running ability, as he rushed for 64 yards on 20 carries in the Bearkats’ first three games.

Trae Self (920 yards passing, five touchdowns, and one interception) is a talented quarterback for SFA (3-1). On 20 carries, he has 56 yards.

The Lumberjacks are coming off a 61-13 thrashing of Division II Lincoln the week before. After a close game against Texas Tech in September, the Jacks have won two straight games. 11, a 28-22 defeat.

In the loss, Self showed he can tangle with an FBS defense, throwing for 343 yards and a touchdown. With a defense that has allowed averages of 21 points per game, the Bearkats will try to slow down Self on Saturday. 67 points, but 77 points. So far, each game has averaged 3 yards passing.

Against its opponents, Sam Houston has a one-minute advantage in time of possession, which could help against a potent quarterback in Self. Ramon Jefferson’s 400 yards and four touchdowns lead the Bearkats’ ground attack. Noah Smith has 116 yards and a touchdown for the Bearkats so far this season. Cody Chrest and Ife Adeyi are solid go-to receivers for Schmid. Chrest has 17 receptions for 207 yards and three touchdowns. Adeyi has a touchdown and 10 receptions for 133 yards. Xavier Gipson, who has 337 yards and three touchdowns on 19 catches, is Self’s clear go-to receiver. Jeremiah Miller, who has nine catches for 109 yards this season, can also make plays.

Sam Houston comes into this game off a tough matchup with Central Arkansas, a familiar opponent. Last week, the Bearkats defeated the Bears 45-35. According to The Marshall News Messenger, Saturday’s game between the Bearkats and the Jacks will be the 95th overall and the 11th at NRG Stadium between the in-state rivals. Clean Bowled News
