Mina Starsiak Hawk shares the sentimental meaning behind new tattoos.
Mina Starsiak Hawk pays tribute with her tattoos and honors her daughter Charlotte and her late sister-in-law Stefanie.
On October 12, the HGTV star took to Instagram to debut the new ink of her daughter’s name on her chest and a heart on her wrist.
“New ink today,” wrote the 36-year-old. “For Charlotte Drew, who should never be in our world…. And for Stef, who should never have left it. “
Starsiak Hawk thanked tattoo artists Shelby Raia and Adam Stoner of Rue Morgue Tattoo Gallery in Franklin, Indiana, “for these simple and perfect memories.”
It seems like “Good Bones” fans will get a glimpse into the tattooing process in an upcoming episode. The gallery offered a behind-the-scenes look at their Instagram, revealing that an HGTV camera crew was in attendance.
These aren’t Starsiak Hawk’s first tattoos. She revealed a tattoo of her son’s name on Instagram in December 2019. According to the comments on her post, she also tattooed the word “friendship” in Greek.
Stefanie, the sister of Starsiak Hawk’s husband Steve, died on March 26, 2020. The HGTV star revealed the news on Instagram the following day.
“Yesterday we unexpectedly lost my sister Stefanie Hawk,” wrote the “Rock the Block” star. “She has been a bright light in all of our lives for so long. There is nothing to say that will make it easier or better, especially at this time when our access to loved ones and friends is so limited. “
With Stefanie’s death amid the coronavirus pandemic, Starsiak Hawk announced that “a gathering will not be possible” with information about a “celebration of Stef’s life” at a later date.
Instead of flowers, Starsiak Hawk asked her supporters to donate to The Asher House – a nonprofit that promotes animal adoption – as Stefanie was a dog lover with a “passion for animal rescue”.
Starsiak Hawk was pregnant with Charlotte at the time of Stefanie’s death.
Starsiak Hawk and her husband welcomed their second child – daughter Charlotte – by caesarean section on September 16, 2020. The couple also share son Jack Richard, 3.
“It’s there! And it’s perfect! We’re just obsessed with our little family and can’t wait for Jack to become cute Charlie’s best big brother,” the couple told People.
The road to welcoming Charlotte was not an easy one for the Built Together writer, who suffered from secondary infertility. The couple fathered their now one-year-old through natural IUI, intrauterine insemination, after exhausting other fertility treatments, including a failed IVF, in vitro fertilization, People reported.
Starsiak Hawk considered welcoming her daughter to an Instagram post in January 2021 just months after losing Stefanie. She wrote that in 2020 “Stef. And our ability to come together as a family to share our love for her as she deserves. It took away the joy from my husband that he had just found again after losing his parents. Every celebration had a dark shadow that the absent people could not forget. It cost so much from so many people. “
She continued, “But there was Charlie who gave us. And every time I look at her I see Stef, for better or for worse. Some days it makes me cry and some days it’s the bright light in a really shitty moment. Stef is gone, but I see her every day … and I’m so grateful for that. “
In a later post, she wrote that her daughter “will never make up for the loss, but she definitely helped dampen the sting”.
