Richmond, Virginia – Virginia’s Republican Governor candidate said Thursday that attendees of a recent right-wing election rally were “strange and wrong” to pledge allegiance to a flag allegedly blown at the rally shortly before the January Capitol riots. “. ..
Glenn Youngkin, the first candidate for a businessman, did not attend a rally outside Richmond on Wednesday. The event was organized on behalf of former President Donald Trump to dismiss conservatives prior to Virginia’s important November 2 elections, and was full of false election fraud.
Yongkin was pressured by the Democratic Party on Thursday to deny the use of such a flag during the pledge and the January 6 riots.
“It’s strange and wrong to pledge allegiance to the flag associated with January 6th,” Yongkin said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
Yongkin is in fierce competition with former Democratic Governor Terry McCorriff, who took office from 2014 to 2018.
Trump called on Wednesday night to “regain the Virginia Rally” and urged the crowd to vote for Yongkin, who he had previously approved.
In a phone call with a reporter Thursday morning, McCorriff urged Yongkin to “go in front of the camera” and said the pledge to the flag was inappropriate.
McCorriff called Wednesday’s rally “one of the darkest moments in Glen Youngkin’s campaign.” His campaign soon released a new television ad highlighting the event and Trump’s phone.
After Yongkin issued a statement, McCorriff tweeted: “” Strange “” ?? Glenn-People died in the January 6 riots. Donald Trump and others celebrated you last night. If you can’t blame last night’s rally and Trump’s deadly plot, you don’t have the courage or character to serve as governor. “
The event was hosted by John Fredericks, the host of the radio show and former Trump chairman of the Virginia Campaign. While Yongkin and the other candidates were moving away, Yongkin also thanked Fredericks for hosting the rally.
